Last Wednesday, 11th of November, was the biggest commercial shopping day in the world: Singles’ Day. The Chinese internet giant Alibaba transformed this day in a yearly shopping festival, with a record sales of €7.4 bln.
Alibaba said nearly half of purchases had been completed on mobile devices, evidencing the rising popularity of online shopping on cellphones.
This year is the first time Alibaba has chosen to launch its Singles’ Day campaign on both its domestic and overseas platforms. Customers from 217 countries and regions outside the Chinese mainland have joined the shopping spree, with Hong Kong, the United States and Russia claiming the three top-buyer areas.
Singles’ Day online sales event has attracted the participation of more than 27,000 global brands, including Zara, Gap, Mango, North Face and the American retailer Costco.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
